by Jaimie Mancham-Case on February 5, 2011

Gerard Butler’s new movie ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ is already off to a flying start. The movie was screened in January and viewers are saying that they were very impressed with his acting and the movie as a whole.

Gerard Butler plays Sam Childers in ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ and the plot of the movie is the story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who’ve been forced to become soldiers. The movie won’t be releases until September 2011. However, you can read and learn more about the movie by reading Sam Childers book, ‘Another Man’s War: The True Story of One Man’s Battle to Save Children in the Sudan‘.

A group of fans from IMDB who are anxious for the movie to be released congregated some comments from around the web and the responses seem to be very enthusiastic. Some of the comments can be read below:

“I seriously was totally blown away by the film and by Sam’s story. It is the role of Gerard Butler’s career, for sure. There is A LOT of violence in it, but it’s necessary to show a realistic look at the incredible suff…ering of the kids in Sudan. I must have cried 10 different times during the film…”

Heard from a client who saw a screening of Gerard Butlers new film “Machine Gun Preacher.” Film made her cry, she says it’s a must see.

Gerard Butler will definitely have a different role in this movie as it is not a chick flick, or action based role but many of his fans have been waiting to see him take on a piece like this for a while.

Saw an advanced screening of Machine Gun Preacher and loved Souleymane Sy Savane’s work. Very natural but still draws you in. I’m gonna rent Goodbye Solo since I can’t seem to stop hearing about his performance. MGP as a whole was damn good. It pulls you in and doesn’t let up till the end. I felt the casts as a whole did an excellent job. I think it’s going to be one of this year’s big films.

I saw Souleymane Sy Savane in Goodbye Solo too, and loved his nuanced performance. It was one of the best that year. However, it would’ve been damn near impossible for him to get an Oscar nom for his first feature and from such a small film with no hollywood machine to push it. At least he got nominated for a Spirit award. I believe he’d have won had it not been Jeff Bridge’s ‘time.’ Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll follow GS up too!

I read that Soueymane Sy Savane is in Machine Gun Preacher and I CAN’T WAIT to see him!
I became and instant fan when I saw 2009′s Goodbye Solo, his film debut. Frankly,
he was robbed of an Oscar that year, but I suppose that’s the politics of independent film. Anyway,
I’m very excited and really looking forward to seeing this no matter what the subject matter. Does
anyone know if he has a big role?
